Every member of the Society (CBES) should aspire to have a beer at every brewery or brewpub located in a day or two bicycle ride distance from Chicago (and, of course, within the city limits).
Naturally, preferable way of getting to is by bike, as for riding back . . . whatever is available, train, bus, horse and buggy, depending on amount of beverages consumed at the destination.

amazing beers
finished with breakfast? come on down!
I'll be at Few Spirits in Evanston for their Few Friday Breakfast Gin release.
Lions, Tigers and Beers, oh my! anybody else going?
The Van Galder is a great resource. It also operates to/from Madison. Very easy to stow your bike on it.
You can take your bikes on the Van Gelder bus to Rockford and ride (100 miles) to Madison through New Galurus and Mt Horeb.
Similar but I was thinking a bit more west. Maybe out to Madison and back passing thru New Glarus. Ale Asylum in Madison is definitely in my top 3 WI breweries.
I'd be cool with overnight. I'm already off Friday July 24 so could probably do a Fri-Sat that weekend.
Cool!
Oh I didn't think Burn Em had a taproom. Or else I would've visited several times already driving back from Michigan!
In any case I would be a maybe for this ride. I agree about that trail but overall find Wisconsin to be more pleasant and fun for riding than Indiana.
