Information

Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society

Every member of the Society (CBES) should aspire to have a beer at every brewery or brewpub located in a day or two bicycle ride distance from Chicago (and, of course, within the city limits).

Naturally, preferable way of getting to is by bike, as for riding back . . . whatever is available, train, bus, horse and buggy, depending on amount of beverages consumed at the destination.

So how was the Des Plaines trail north of Libertyville?  I always mean to ride it but by the time I make it that far north don't really want to add the extra miles....

serge, when do you think you'll be back 8/21?

Comment by bobweiser on August 12, 2016 at 2:21am

i've come back that way, on the Pampered Century itself, and liked it a lot, but never taken it northbound. i shouldn't automatically listen to lady google!

Let me know what you think of Sheridan Rd and the north shore area. All the riding you do I can't believe that you've never ridden up that way before!

rich, thanks for saving me from boring as crap!

I whipped that together fairly quickly without fine tooth combing. For the bowen park to north point stretch, the route you posted below has a better crossing for Wadsworth Rd. My route goes on Sheridan for a short stretch but from streetview it doesn't look like it would be a pleasant one.

The old elm to bowen park link also avoids a part of Sheridan that is more like an expressway.

I edited the route I posted to avoid those sections.

rich, you reminded me i had last year's Pampered Century route:

sheridan & old elm to bowen park
bowen park to north point marina
north point marina to kenosha

and it's a lot more like your route. any comment on the differences?

thanks for all the input. i did wonder how interesting something so straight could be. thanks especially rich for a mapped-out alternative.

Forgot to mention that the McClory Path is also infuriating with a street crossing at every single block thru Waukegan.

Serge, most of the trail between Racine and Kenosha was boring, but the Root River Parkway in Racine was quite lovely, though a bit confusing to follow.
