Information

Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society

Every member of the Society (CBES) should aspire to have a beer at every brewery or brewpub located in a day or two bicycle ride distance from Chicago (and, of course, within the city limits).

Naturally, preferable way of getting to is by bike, as for riding back . . . whatever is available, train, bus, horse and buggy, depending on amount of beverages consumed at the destination.

i think maybe i took the DPRT part of the way back from o'hare once.

in other news, an extension will bring the NBT closer to the LFT on 9/21!

Bob, DPRT does go all the way down to just north of North Ave. I've taken from the southern most point many times. It's definitely not as nice of trail in the Cook County section but I kind of like the variety. Lots more mud and dirt in the southern sections than up north.

It's closed at Bryn Mawr right now while they re-build the bridge over the Kennedy. But I know a way under the expressway further west although it's always really muddy under there.

it was pretty. the terrain and the scenery were nicely varied. as was how close you were to civilization, sometimes the interstate was right there, sometimes it was prairie, or woods, as far as you could see.

there were tons of secondary trails, but the signs were great, you didn't even have to stop and get off to read them.

the 1st entrance i tried, from the frontage road on the west, was locked, so i went back up to russell rd and then got to start from the official mile zero.

i didn't expect crushed limestone. that did slow me down.

next time ride all the way, then another 7 miles (paved) to winthrop harbor, and take the train back?

really does the trail go all the way down almost to north ave like google and the fpdcc say it does?
