Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society

Information

Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society

Every member of the Society (CBES) should aspire to have a beer at every brewery or brewpub located in a day or two bicycle ride distance from Chicago (and, of course, within the city limits).

Naturally, preferable way of getting to is by bike, as for riding back . . . whatever is available, train, bus, horse and buggy, depending on amount of beverages consumed at the destination.

Routes on Ride with GPS, here.

On Facebook, here.

On Twitter, here.

Lists of breweries and brewpubs (and other beer things): on Facebook, and on Twitter.

wups, wrong gravity, that should've been:

plato = -616.868 + 1111.14 * og - 630.272 * og^2 + 135.997 * og^3

Comment by bobweiser on January 9, 2017 at 12:17pm

in case you ever want to calculate it for an atypical beer:

abw = abv / 1.25
fg ~ 1 + abv / 100
og = fg + abv * fg / 133
plato = -616.868 + 1111.14 * fg - 630.272 * fg^2 + 135.997 * fg^3
celsius = 0.04 * plato - 0.42 * abw + 0.2

and as everyone knows:

fahrenheit = (celsius * 1.8) + 32

Whew.  No crying over spilt beer (oder Eissbeer). ;-)

IIRC, typical beer will freeze ~ 28F.

Comment by bobweiser on January 7, 2017 at 7:28am

having some friends over tonight, put some beer outside to chill, and my wife wondered if they would freeze. will they? one is 7.3%, the other, 11.5%.
