So I feel like a piker, just sorta a rebuild not a real build (a Sears build). Took a Schwinn Prelude frame my brother had aquired from a MO shop many years ago and he had fixed a bad braze at the seat tube but it was still a 27" with friction (ball detent actually) shifters.
I pulled the old stuff swapped in Shimano (hey I can hear yer hissing from here) RST brake lever shifters and some old brake calipers I had laying around. Bought some newly laced 700C rims on the RST hubs and made it all work.
I left the heat bubbled paint and worn suede seat with an old rear rack as urban camoflage. Since the frame was actually a tad small for my 6foot frame I stretched the riders compartment with a MTB stem with some rise and length to make it fit me for street riding when I want to go as fast as my fat ass can go (OK, OK, OK so that's not all that fast but I can drop buses in medium traffic across the north side). The ugliest pink/purple original paint and burnt paint on that steel frame sorta keeps mine from being the target if I do lock it somewhere (not common but with only a couple hundred invested in the whole bike, I think the wheels were the biggest ticket item, and next time I'll just relace 'em myself). The rest of my 'stable' is stuff I bought new when I was better off so it's nice to have urban grade transport at times.
