Here's what a little luveley treatment (by a gent up north) will accomplish!!!

That picture is of a Pashley Mailstar, http://www.pashley.co.uk/products/mailstar.html, and according to the specifications it has a 3-speed internal hub.

I don't remember if the old 'postie' bikes were single-speed or geared, and if that would be internal or derailleur (I'd expect an internal hub, if anything).

Meanwhile: what looks like a 1930s-1950s James GPO bike is up on Craig's List today - http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/bik/1686698536.html

My guess is that they're either single or three speeds but perhaps Lord Alan could weigh in as he is a Brit in good standing.

Chaps & Chapettes!

I've been looking for small, metal travel kettles (for upcoming Tweed Rides) that work well with a small, folding ESBIT camp stove I got here. I found several great options. For anyone who's interested, follow the links below:

General "Teapot" search at Etsy, the hipsters' eBay. And one very cool set.

Some damn fine and cheap camping options here, here, and here.

Chaps & Chapettes! Our May Day Tweed Rider is less than a month away. So as you're preparing your springy kit do consider this lovely item, available on eBay...

Beautiful thick smooth black leather saddle bag by GYES. 17x7x5cm. The interior is lined with a water resistant sepia colored synthetic fabric. There is a small zippered interior cash pocket. You will need a Brooks-style saddle with saddle loops in order to attach it. Very high quality, luggage-like finish.
