Before and after shots...

D'oh! I knew I was forgetting something before I tore it all apart to components and started cleaning everything.

It was very dirty and rusty -but it seems that all the bearing races are OK and the rear hub seems to be totally fine -I just need to figure out what kind of oil to add to it.

It had sat in a shed for a LONG time (the last time I can remember my dad riding this bike was circa 1976 or so). It'd not been cared for and the last 10 years the shed had a bad roof so a lot of moisture had gotten in there.

After pics will have to suffice. Wish I would have thought of taking before.

Just joined up. Neat group. I'm in the process of restoring my dad's '54 Raleigh Sports.

Dad bought it new in '54 and now I'm the second owner. I can't wait to get it back on the road. It was (still is) in pretty bad shape but a bunch of elbow grease and detail cleaning/de-rusting should get it in halfway decent shape again.

Ha, ha . . . the perils of digital video editing.

I was watching a clip of Biking the Boulevards yesterday ...

They cut from a full shot of Geoffrey Baer cycling along to a close-up of him pedalling - but, I imagine, so it was in the same direction as he was going in the earlier shot and this was a clip from a different time, they flipped it. This meant the drive-train & chain-case, etc., were on the wrong side of the bike!

Calling all gents and gentettes! The organizers of Indianapolis's 1st Ever Tweed Ride on the 23rd just wrote me and offered beds, floors, etc. to anyone coming on down from the Windy City! If you all are game, let me know and I'll send you their email!

If you enjoy really clever British banter (and who doesn't ?) be sure to catch Stephen Fry's QI on iPlayer.
