Didn't have a lot of time to spend at Kratefest, so I left my bike home, but I did manage to spend a small boatload of money. Scored a straight 650A/EA3 wheelset for the Raleigh womans bike I'm building up for my kid, along with a seatpost and shifter, too. Got a really nasty Brooks B73 for a sawbuck. Nice frame, lousy cover. Anyone got an old B72 they want to part with(same cover as the B73)

Hard to decide what was the better score here, though. I found a very nice Ideale 90 saddle for $15 and a German Farrhadmark folding bike with aluminum fenders, working lights, and a Komet coaster brake for $25.

The Krates and the other show bikes brought back some memories. I never had a Krate myself, but I did have a balloon tired Evans with a banana seat and ape hangers. I used to crush Krates with it.

Collecting Krates or any Chicago Schwinn product is fast becoming a rich mans hobby. One very nice Orange Krate had an asking price of $1625.00. Makes me wish I'd kept my Paramount track bike and my gold Hollywood with the 2 speed kickback hub. I think I'll stick with British steel, it's cheaper.

Okay, the Eastman is dialed in and the Argus C3 is loaded with Tri-X or Tri-Mark or whatever Kodak calls Tri-X anymore. Ready for Sycamore on the 20th.

Don't think I own a Kodak, how about a Zenit?

Will you be using your Kodak while riding you Eastman?

I'd be up for it. An excuse to ride my Eastman.

Ladies & Gents!

We're up to a whopping 39 Nutters! And to keep our upper lips appropriately stiff for the next Winston's Tweed Ride, on 12 Sept 09, I want to draw your attention to a dandy event out in Sycamore, IL, just 10 miles north of Dekalb. Blue Moon Bikes is hosting its 18th Annual Kratefest on Sat, 20 June 09! Although this Classic Bike Show and Swap Meet (from 9am to 3pm) is dominated by those pesky Schwinn Stingrays, I do believe they'd get a kick out of our classic steeds and elegant tweeds! If anyone is interested in going with me, do not hesitate to contact me!

And many thanks to Hector for the spoke cards he made. Everyone on the 3speed Tour loved 'em!!!

"A Bummel ... describes ... a journey, long or short, without an end; the only thing regulating it being the necessity of getting back within a given time to the point from which one started. Sometimes it is through busy streets, and sometimes through the fields and lanes; sometimes we can be spared for a few hours, and sometimes for a few days. But long or short, but here or there, our thoughts are ever on the running of the sand. We nod and smile to many as we pass; with some we stop and talk awhile; and with a few we walk a little way. We have been much interested, and often a little tired. But on the whole we have had a pleasant time, and are sorry when it's over."
