Who Should You Support This Holiday Shopping Season?

As I put together my holiday shopping list, I'm wondering - where do you plan on shopping this holiday season?  

 

If it's local, what businesses?

 

Any bike related merchandise?

Yojimbo's, but prolly just for me, but hey, i need gifts too. Komoda on Chicago and Rockwell is where I do a bunch of holiday shopping. This year I'm making a concerted effort to shop local and only local.

Across the street from Komodo is Squast with all locally made clothing and jewelry! Great gifts for the ladies in your life! You can grab some locally roasted coffee at Star lounge up the street!

I'm hoping to pay a visit to Rapid Transit.  My folder could use a tune-up.

Otherwise, I'm looking forward to visiting some neighborhood places on 95th St. and 103rd. - Jimmy Jamm for fabulous sweet potato pie, Calabria for ingredients to make an Italian cooking gift basket, Heritage Gallery for an art gift.  There are a few new shops that I plan to check out, too.

If you're looking for a used bike, now is the time to get one from The Recyclery Collective. As always, sales support our educational programming and Freecyclery. Sales are every Saturday morning 10am - noon. We've got a great selection of road, mountain and cruiser bikes, and you don't have to worry about the summer crowd. We also have gift certificates!

I met a woman who has put together a big holiday fair featuring locally-created products and locally-owned businesses.  You'll know some of the vendors from Chicago's circuit of farmers markets.  There will be lots of food and treats for sale.  It's happening this Friday and Saturday in Lincoln Park at the Grossinger City Autoplex - the perfect place to fill a parking lot with bicycles.
