We recently featured a bike built to withstand a zombie apocalypse. What bike would you choose? What gear would you choose?
That lake front path can be rough to navigate after a bad storm. Would your Zombie bike be the right bike in rough conditions?

Makes sense. Any specific brand/model you had in mind?
MTB. You can get tires anywhere in the world.
IG hubs have to warm up somewhere to work I've heard....
My current bicycle is badass enough to get me through a zombie apocalypse. I don't think I'd need any more gear than what I currently carry in my panniers. I'd maybe add a box of twinkies and a baseball bat to my checklist.
Definitely looks sturdy enough. Did you remove the chainsaw before taking the picture? ;-)
I really like my MTB/commuter. Other than slightly more bulky than my roadie and not as fast, I can go just about anywhere and haven't had an issue with it yet.
But I'd say a CX bike with some larger tires might be a second for me.
Salsa Fargo and Surly Troll are two solid options for the start of the apocalypse, but later on when parts get harder to find I'd have to take an old steel 26" MTB with rim brakes or a coaster brake.
That or a Cogburn
Yeah, all steel Schwinn with 26" balloon tires and a coaster brake. Fewer fussy parts that way. It would ride through most conditions just fine, plus you can overhaul the whole bike with an adjustable wrench and a flathead screw driver. I suppose any hills you would encounter might leave you wanting more gearing options, but you should probably just up your cardio in the zombie apocalypse anyway.
