Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

The driver was very nice and moved his vehicle to the delivery dock after I took this picture and chatted with him.

Blocks both the bike lane and the vehicular traffic lane . . . but that's okay because he placed a cone.

They sure know how to use them cones. I didn't even notice that since I went on the inside of the truck.

I had a rather nasty run in with an armored car driver and two federal police officers this morning on Wells St near the Federal Reserve Bank. I've documented numerous cases of the armored vehicles parked illegally in the right (bike) lane at this location. I stopped this morning to take a photo. The driver jumped out of the truck, and started screaming at me. His first words were "You take another picture of the truck and I'll kick your ass." I told him that he was illegally parked in the bike lane, and he was having none of it. I told him I was going to call 911, given that he threatened me. I called 911, and while I was on the phone two federal police officers walked over. They work at the Federal Reserve Bank. They asked me what I was doing, and I told them that he was illegally parked. Of course, their first response was, "Well, where is he supposed to park?" I said, "I don't give a sh*t where he parks as long as it's not parked illegally in the bike lane!" I pointed to a large open spot along the curb on Wells, and to the large open spot on Quincy St. The one officer got in my face so close that the mirror on my helmet banged her in the head, and she nearly freaked out. I told her to give me some d*mn space. I told them that the police were on the way, and they said that the police would back them up. I said, "Well, we'll see about that." I wouldn't be shocked if she was right, though.

So, the two officers escort the truck to the scanning bay, and disappear. I waited for over 10 minutes, but the Chicago police never arrived. What an utter waste of time and energy.

I will file the 311 report later today, and post the pic. I am also going to call the CPD and file a police report on the driver for threatening me. This sh*t is really pissing me off.

Sorry to hear! That sucks!

Wow, that really blows. Also not surprised the CPD were no-shows.

That sucks and all and glad you're ok... but with the amount of posts you make on here about blocked bike lanes, how do you have the time?

Trust me, I'd rather be kicking back after work than having to post photos and file police reports. However, I feel that our safety is important, so I make the time. Hopefully we can collectively figure out how to develop an app that allows us to submit a 311 report (w/ photo) directly from our smartphones without having to wade through the sh*tty 311 website.
