What is your primary reason for riding in the winter?

I dont go very far in the winter.But when I do go out on my bike it feels so good ythat I dont want to stop riding.I just painted my bike to so the paint hasnt had the heat it needs to set properly.My other two bikes are buried on my back sun porch for the winter under things that I dont use in the winter.When spring comes Im on it everyday rain and sun.No salt and snow for my bike.I dont like to damage my bikes.

It would cost me $5 per day and twice as long to get to work everyday. If you get the right gear you don't freeze and the streets I ride on are generally well-plowed and overly salted.

I don't really think about it similar to how I don't really think about why I choose to walk, take a train, ride the bus or jump in a car. For me, it's not about proving a point (such as being "green)". It's simply a way to get around.

Yes, I ride and love to ride. The winter does present a great challenge to which I want to rise. But I love to ride all the time and each season presents a kind of strange set of scenarios that are neither perfect nor negative. I just keep on and plan to continue.

lol, I don't want to be employed on a payroll taking crap from anyone. All my work related to bike culture is either donated or on a tribute basis now. That is how I roll these days ....

Stress!!

I am a better person at work and home when i ride my bike. Winter riding adds a little more challenge. There is a big difference in my day when I take public transportation instead of riding.

I am always amazed at people that think I am crazy! on the coldest days I am very comfortable on my bike. I get good stress relief plus I save money!!

I love riding all year round, Summer spring and fall are beautiful to ride in Chicago. But winter just adds another challenge to the equation that makes it a blast. Other than the main reason I bike everyday (commuting to work/School) Biking in winter makes me feel like a bad ass. Nothing is more rewarding then racing home in sub zero temps after a long night of drinking to pass out in a semi warm bed (can't afford heat or the bus haha). But basically riding in the winter is just going to make riding in the warm months that much better.
