Has the street conditions on the West Side (road grading on Hubbard, Lake, other assorted side streets) been addressed anywhere on here yet? Wondering if anyone has info about how long it might be before there's a direct route back into the Loop again?

Yeah, all the parallel streets are shredded!

I don't know how long it's going to be, but it really pisses me off that the companies resurfacing the roads can, in one week, scarify (rip up) all the roads they have contracts on and then resurface them over the next several months of the season. This method is cheapest for them and most inconvenient for everyone else.

(Truth be told, I do appreciate fresh asphalt.)

So... I know that Fulton is out between Ashland and Wolcott (?) Has it been a month? I'm pretty sure at least that. Let's see how long it takes to resurface.

Somebody post when you see this section is finished.
Don't know what's up with city plans, but I'm with you; been kah-thumping several of the road construction projects west of the Loop on my way to UIC near the United Center.
It really sucks that they chose to take out so many parallel streets at the same time. In the last few weeks, I've done some riding on the near west side and seen how many streets there are ground down for repaving.

BTW, I'm also dealing with this in parts of Beverly. But yesterday I experienced the joy of seeing new asphalt laid down on a formerly cratered section of one my favorite bike routes - Prospect. Coming back from the Major Taylor Trail, I saw the paving crew at work. Wonderfully smooth asphalt, still warm.

Wishing you similar joy on the near west side real soon.
I can't wait for the super smooth ride but man, the meantime is killer on my poor bike :)
This is not encouraging news. Hopefully the strike will be brief.
oh fuuuuuhhhhhhhhh. Thanks for the update though. :)
The section of Fulton, Ashland (1600 W.) to Wolcott (1900 W.) has been partially repaved, from Ashland to ??. I imagine it will be completed within a week. Definitely worth the trouble, this section was fairly sucky. I am impressed with the turnaround.

I notice also that Lake St. east of Damen is also at least parly finished. The westbound lanes between Halsted and Ogden/Ashland is currently closed. More repaving?

Finally, Leavitt St. under the Union Pacific tracks (roughly 450 N.) was repaved some time ago.
this is the greatest news... I hope Hubbard is next!! It's my favorite road :)

Update: the resurfacing of Fulton St., Ashland to Wolcott is complete.

The section over the Kennedy expressway, Halsted to Des Plaines has NOT been completed.

On a related note, eastbound Lake Street is closed from Peoria to ???.

Just an FYI.
