whereas i like del valle the most for his interpretations of chicago's future...he really doesnt seem to have the balls to do anything, or get anything done.  he is like a poor monk banking on benefaction.

 

rahm does seem to have the stamina, tho quite brash indeed, to achieve goals.

I'm not voting for Rahm.  He isn't attending any of the community events to discuss topics.  For example, he didn't attend the event to discuss environmental concerns.  Carol Moseley Braun was the only one there who was willing to discuss environmental issues, and she mentioned improving walkability, bicycling, and public transportation infrastructure.  So far, Carol Moseley Braun's got my vote.

I read your blog entry and the Wikipedia entry before I responded. 

Bigger font and Bold type makes your argument no more compelling for me.

Well said.

Del Valle seems to be the nicer guy, but I don't think that we need a nice guy.

It's one of those times I'm glad I don't get to vote.

What about Chico? 

 

He has local schooling, Illinois and Loyola (went to night school for a law degree while working full-time)...He seems extremely hard working...even though he had to kiss Daley's butt to stay in the front lines of Chicago politics.  He seems like he has a finger on the pulse of this city and how to get things done with his long Chicago employment back ground and strong understanding of local laws and government policies.  With his many years of overseeing Chicago education and some great ideas of moving expenses off our budget to save money, like out-sourcing government hiring which would remove political favors and hopefully put more qualified individuals in our city jobs. 

 

He will likely get my vote, but please persuade me to consider others, besides....I got more money and will run over other candidates Rahm (bully).

To be clear, my comments had nothing to do with who I support, endorse or intend to vote for. I tried to confine my comments to whether being "likeable" or a "jerk" have anything to do with qualifications for elected office.

I really like Del Valle, and I've been very impressed by the fact that everybody I meet who knows him speaks about him in glowing terms.  But compare his statements on transportation issues here and here, for example, with Rahm's Transportation Plan on his issues page.   The former sounds like they're coming from a really good guy who wants better things for the city and whose heart is in the right place, while the latter sounds like somebody who's thought long and hard about what the next step forward is.

 

Now some of that is just the fact that Emmanuel has more money to pay analysts to put out position papers, but some of it is just a different approach to things.  This kind of detailed stuff impresses me much more than lofty statements.

 

Here's an small excerpt.  You may like the ideas or not, but I don't think there's any denying that somebody on the campaign has thought more about these issues than any of the other candidates seem to have done...

Every transit station attracts riders and development potential, but the City has not fully integrated the goal of improving rail lines and stations into its capital and economic development strategies. Rahm will issue an executive order that establishes clear and consistent principles for transit oriented development – expedited permitting, set-aside of city-owned property to expand car sharing and bike parking, assistance with land assembly, expanded use of tax credits and loan guarantees, and identification of instances where the City will jointly invest with CTA to improve the transit system. The order will recognize the clear link between housing and transportation costs in keeping neighborhoods affordable, and will evaluate improvements on their ability to reduce the combined cost of housing and transportation for Chicago residents

Braun was NOT the only candidate discussing environmental issues at that forum.  Miguel del Valle also did, and in more detail.  He talked about his plan to force the Fisk and Crawford coal-fired power plants to clean up emission or shut down.  He also talked about bike, ped and transit issues.

The VWYF article seemed like everyone except Del Valle was just paying lip service to the cause.

I was thinking, someone should pretend to be from an automobile advocacy group and look for comment from all these people. Then see which ones say the exact opposite.

Rahm is the Machine's hand-picked candidate.  Short of losing the judgement in the state supreme court for residency issues he's in. I doubt he is going to lose.  These aren't the droids you are looking for...

 

Chicago has the best politicians money can buy.

It is somewhat bothersome to me that Emmanuel seems to think he doesn't even need to show up to forums. Almost as if he feels like he has this baby locked up. Seems like every one of the President's local pals think they are somehow entitled to win elections. I got the same vibe from Gianoulias, but maybe it's just me.
