Volvo invented the three point seat belt and is extending safety features externally. Seat belts use are almost universally compulsory. Might we see this soon? and how about a feature to prevent an idiot from open his door if a bike is coming?

Anything that saves a cyclist from a collision is a good thing.    I don't know how consumers will feel about car systems that totally override the driver.  Are body shops going to see lots of business from rear end collisions because a squirrel or newspaper blows across the street?

What if the car swerves into the cyclist? (Which is a lot closer to the scenario of my close encounter with a Volvo.)

I'm wondering why they made the cyclist look like such a clueless and inattentive road user, giant headphones being the most obvious thing.  In the real world, it would be the driver with a cellphone stuck to his head against his shoulder, one hand switching between the steering wheel and the radio dial and a big mac in the other hand.

Maybe not in Sweden? ;-)

We're selling the concept to the car driver, who seems to me a nice educated clean cut Swede.  The part of the unpredictable road hazard will be played by the hippie doof with the disco headphones.

The most unbelievable part of the video is that in Sweden of all places, you can find an open manhole cover.

That combination seemed a bit off to me, too.
