Some Very Important Parkers Ive come across over the last few days.

Illinois just west of Michigan is a popular spot:

Mr Boots could have used one:

This SUV driver was too busy with his phone to notice the traffic backup he was causing. He pulled out right after he saw me taking his picture. Although he seems to like to park in the bike lane, apparently he doesnt appreciate evidence of this and gave me the finger as he drove by.

Unfortunately I didnt get pictures of the two USPS vehicles that did a U-turn into the eastbound Kinzie protected bike lane and drove down the block.  That was special.

Wish I had a picture of the CTA police car that was parked today in the southbound bike lane on Southport just south of Addison.  I thought about stopping to get the camera out for a second, but it was raining too hard and I am not as diligent as you were.

Would it be worth it to send the picture of Mr. Boots with the date and time to the local police station?  Looks like he is actually in a protected bike lane.

That's the protected bike lane on Kinzie Street...I'd recognize that, I've slid on that pavement before, even cracked a fork. Blue Agave likes to block that same bike lane around 4:30pm every Thursday.

You want to know the difference between this luxury car and a porcupine?

With a porcupine the pricks are on the outside

Mr. Boots actually came out while I was taking the picture.  He apologized and said that he was on a rush catering delivery and asked me not to report him to his boss.  I agreed if he promised not to park in a bike lane again.  My goal is to get motor vehicles out of the bike lanes, not to be a jerk as an end in itself.  Hopefully this was a learning experience for Mr. Boots.

I agree with the goal, and hope he lives up to the promise.  The only reason for reporting this stuff is to try to stop it!

I was listening to the WBEZ pledge drive and they were telling folks to pull over in their cars and pledge right now.   I wonder how many of those folks pulled into a bike lane, sharrows, or other ill-advised spots like this rather than found a good, sane, proper parking spot where they weren't obstructing/blocking other traffic.

I see so many folks take a call in their car and pull over to block the bike lane or otherwise leave the arse of their vehicle sticking out in such a way that it obstructs or at least freaks out traffic so that it causes a blockage/slowdown anyhow.

Can't you just WAIT until you get home to return a call these days?  What is so freaking IMPORTANT that you can't wait a few minutes and would rather obstruct and/or inconvenience hundreds, if not thousands, of other road-users while you selfishly return or answer a call instantly?

Shut the damn phone off in your stupid car -or pull ALL THE WAY off the road into a proper parking spot and not just sit on the side of the road where it causes a back-up anyhow.  I remember back 10-15 years ago when not everyone had a cell phone and things were so much more peaceful back then..

Thanks for taking action on this matter.

I hope it works.

One Sunday morning, around 8:00, about six weeks ago, in the new protected lanes on Lake Street:

Maybe it is an evil plan by the CTA to get us off our bikes and onto the CTA?  Don't know what the security guy's excuse is other than it looked like a good place to take a nap, maybe.

Really, I just have to get a helmet camera!  Then I could have gotten a picture of all of the construction equipment in the Kinzie Street protected bike lane just east of Jefferson at about 7:45 this a.m.  We all had to pull out into the traffic lane.  Lots of construction workers standing around--I thanked them for parking in the bike lane, but I don't think they got it!

classic. talk about a double standard. I nominate these for the hall of shame : esp. since there appears to be adequeate parking nearby outside of the protected bike lane (just make an "illegal" u-turn and park on the other side of the street)
