Good tune-up means it would make my single speed run like new, any ideas?? :))

Not my neck of the woods but Iron Cycles has been a good fried to the bike community:

Iron Cycles is a great place, they are on Montrose near Kedzie. Other shops in the area are Johnny Sprockets at bryn mayr close to the lake. Turin on Damen near the brown line stop. and there is On the route on Lawrence right in lincoln Square. Any of these shops will be able to take care of this for you.

Living by the Ravenswood Metra stop, I usually go to Uptown Bikes at Broadway and Leland even though I'm closer to On the Route. There's also the new Turin at Damen and Leland, which I can't vouch for but seems to have good reviews on Yelp.

Definitely go to Iron Cycles. They are super friendly, and have fair prices. I ride a single speed, and I have a tricky back tire that is almost impossible to mount. Of course I've already had two flats with it. Every time I brig it I'm the guy laughs and says "again?!?". Bunch of cool guys work there. I totally recommend it to everyone I meet!!

Easy Rider (Lincoln and south of Warner) isn't too bad and you can grab a beer at the Horse Shoe. Both are owned by the same guy. You can negotiate a little with him and Cash is king.

Turen (Damen and north of Leland) Newish shop haven't had anything done there.

and then theirs always On the Route (Lawrence Just north of the square). For me its been hit or miss as far as attitudes of the employees. As of lately they have been nice.

I personally like Easy Rider. Thats where I bought my Biria bike and the guy is super nice. You can probably talk him into giving you a free patch or something. My wife got a free helmet from him when I bought my bike because we haggled with him a bit.

Uptown bikes. 15 minute ride from Lincoln Square. Come down Wilson and one block north on Broadway (@Leland).  Very talented techs, reasonably priced.

If you're looking that far, then check out Roscoe Village Bikes (Roscoe and Damen) and buy a pin for Buddy the Dog. Proceeds go to animal shelters

Roscoe Village Bikes.

Adam recommends Heritage Cycle... ;) (it's funny because Adam's post wasn't there when I typed this!)

Johnny Sprockets on Bryn Mawr rebuilt a wheel for me and did a great job recycling parts from the old one, so I'll say they're good enough to recommend their Lincoln Park location as well.

Depending on the condition of your bike, it may require an overhaul to get her running like new. A tune up is generally the lower hanging fruit - adjusting brakes, headset and bottom bracket, cleaning the drive-train and the like, while an overhaul (depending on the shop) will include the tune-up stuff, but will also include rebuilding the hubs and bottom bracket and headset - (if applicable) essentially disassembling the whole bike and rebuilding it with fresh grease and bearings (probably). An overhaul will run you at least double, perhaps triple the cost of a tune-up, but if your bike needs it, it is well worth the investment. (assuming you get it done by a competent mechanic who isn't rushed through it of course)
