Tragedy Strikes: Deaths, injuries reported after vehicle hits bicyclists in Michigan

Details are very sketchy but eight cyclists, including children, were hit by a motorist in Kalamazoo County..   Not clear yet how many are dead/injured.

My prayers go out to the victims and their families.

"Authorities say a vehicle slammed into a group of at least eight bicyclists in western Michigan, leaving an unknown number of people dead and others injured."

Sorry, I'm realizing what I said probably wasn't clear - if you don't want to be on FB, the website will probably be adequate: http://www.kalamazoostrongorganization.org/

Make that 3.

I used to live in Michigan and am familiar with the Kalamazoo area.  One of sister lives in K-zoo.  It is a reminder that something like this can happen anytime, anywhere.  As part of a cycling community, it really sadden me to learn someone would intentionally run over a group of people out enjoying their passion.

This is my home town and I will CONTINUE to encourage friends to tour the area roads with me.

Too angry. right now.

I encourage prayers for the families.

But when the time is right to to fight back I'm ready.

Does anyone know if there is a Chicago ride of silence planned? I heard there will be more in Michigan next week.

(crap ning.)

I don't. Dave Barish was going to suggest that the Evanston Bike Club have a moment of silence before their weekend rides. That's always a possibility for other Chicago-based cycling clubs/teams. They could even dispense with their usual kit and all go hi-viz yellow.

The names of the 9 bicyclists in the Tuesday evening tragedy has been released.  RIP to the 5 fellow bicyclists.  Wishing for a full recovery to the 4 who remain hospitalized.

This breaks my heart.

What remain of the bikes in police evidence holding area. It was tough for me to look at it as I imagined what those 9 people went though.
