In years past, I know there has been a Tour de Cure ride as part of Bike the Drive (I did it in 2012 and 2013). Does anyone know if TdC is going to be at BtD this year?

The only local TdC ride I find listed on the ADA's website is for the Chicagoland TdC in Aurora on June 14th.

Thanks in advance for any info provided.

Hi Adam,

My name is Samantha and I am a Tour Manager for the ADA, for Tour de Cure. We have done Bike the Drive in the past, but recently were notified by Active Tans (the organization that puts the ride on) that they will no longer have charity partners. This means that everyone who would want to ride and raise money would have to do it on their own, not part of an organized group. There’s not really much we can do about it, and I know many of our longstanding teams are bummed out about it.

I know a few of our tour de cure riders are going to be doing Bike the Drive, but again, it will be on their own, as individuals.

Our event in Aurora is awesome, and complete with a ton of things that we weren’t able to execute at bike the drive, such as, a full breakfast, lunch, beverage ticket (Two Brothers beer or another non-alcoholic item), post ride festival with live music and kids activities. There are five route options to choose from as well: 10, 20 and 40 miles on the path, and 65 and 100 miles on the roads. It’s such a fun event and SO worth the drive!

If you have any questions, please feel free to shoot me an email at ssales@diabetes.org

Hope to see you at our June 14th event!

Hi Samantha. Thank you for the information, I appreciate it.

I am already signed up for the Chicagoland Tour de Cure (40 miles), but was thinking of doing both if there was going to be one at BtD, since I'm signed up for it as well. Disappointed to hear that Active Trans doesn't want any charity partners, but I guess it is what it is.

Thanks again.

Hi Adam,

I did a little digging, and see that you are a part of Team Red. David Gibbs is the captain of Team Red and he has been rallying some folks together to do Bike the Drive. If you are interested in riding with anyone, or meeting up before/after, I would definitely let him know! Seems like it will be a fun group of folks still riding Bike the Drive from our Tour de Cure event. I believe he has sent a few emails to the Team Red folks recently.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

If you would like some help getting the word out to promote Tour de Cure and Tour de Cure at Bike the Drive, please let me know. I'd be happy to help reach out through our newsletter, Twitter, and Facebook to help promote fundraising for your organization. Feel free to drop me an email at yasmeen@thechainlink.org

Yasmeen, any/all help would be awesome, Julie and the chainlink have always been a big supporter of Tour de Cure, and if you've never done the ride, you really should!!  This is my personal invitation to join my team, Team Joe Nedza!!  http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR/TourdeCure/TourAdmin?team_id=69244...

Pretty much everybody knows someone who suffers from diabetes, and this event is a great cause!!
