recently picked up a folding helmet that can be multipurposed to several other activities including whitewater surfing, spelunking, and the occasional rough secs...

that's it folded up on the rack of 2002 dahon mariner (another recent acquisition) and in its full glory photochopped into the bottom of the pic.

I just bought this Nutcase helmet on Saturday.  Not cheap, but the least dorky helmet I've ever owned or worn.  It also fits my head better than any helmet I've ever worn.

I've just resigned myself that this is about the best it's gonna get.  I feel like all helmets make me look like a big retarded kid.  But at least I'm not gonna bash my brains in.

yes, i've seen images of the pango online, they seemed to have a strange shape, figured that they'd be priced high as well. found this one on ebay. it's made by edelrid and marketed at rock climbers but pretty similar to some of my skateboard helmets. i took a gamble buying it for the $82 buy it now price and am pretty happy with the fit. if you or anyone else would want to see the product for yourself we can arrange to meet so there'd be no doubt of what you're getting into.

Where did you get your folding helmet? I'd seen the Pango on Dahon's website, but didn't think they were for sale in the US.

London designer Sawako Furuno does women's helmets

And London's Bobbin Bicycles:

The very British "Mr. Ben" Bowler Helmet

And "Sherlock" Deerstalker Helmet

Cheerio!

their documentation states:

"Mountaineer helmets to EN 12492, possibly with extension
to EN 1078 (Helmet for pedal cyclists and for users of
skateboards and roller skates)
Industrial safety helmets to EN 397"

i bought this helmet with multisport use in mind. having a background designing and testing safety equipment, i find this product fits my needs quite well. then again i've spent years perfecting how to fall... heheheh.

I am thinking of getting the S.O. an equestrian helmet, they seem pretty cute, often accommodate ponytails, and some people seem to think they meet much tougher standards than bike helmets. Of course they usually start around $150 so that is an issue ... unless they are worth it.
Wow! where can I find that Stay away one?

Fergit 'dem sassy lil' toys and git yerself a real helmut.

Such as one that celebrates 'merica

Or celebrates your heritage...

Or sez ' stay away'

Juan: that Prussian spiked helmet would likely kill you in a fall unless the spike was made to break away at the slightest impact.  Imagine yourself falling head down in a crash with a spike in the ground.  Your head would stop falling while your neck broke.  Not a good helmet.

I have a ten year old bell helmet someone gave me. It was dorky blue, so I put a raincover on it. The raincover got lost. I went shopping for a new helmet because the dorky blue covershell was cracked and deteriorated. The Bern's do look cool, but on my head I felt like a star wars storm trooper, or like i should be playing polo.

so, i ripped the cover off and now I have a generic charcoal black styrofoam shell. It's great! It's also really light, and saved me a bunch of money!

Those new colorful hardshell helmets are cool, though!

When I was a child in the eighties, my father used to do pin striping like that on people's motorcycles and grain trucks.  Pretty snazzy!

My thoughts exactly! I'd feel way more of a dork wearing one of those hats with straps than a regular ole helmet.

Guess it depends on one's definition of "dork." i'd feel kinda dorkish in one of those hats...
Do you have a bike helmet that is a big bouncy fro like the one in your profile photo?
