Stringbike? Interesting . . .

Stumbled upon this on the Net today. Anyone's tried or even seen it?

I dont know how this works but it would really suck if/when that string broke. I envision a large gash on your leg when the tension breaks.

Interesting mechanics... necessary? I think not. In my opinion, the Stringbike drivetrain is a solution looking for a problem.

Here's a YouTube video I found that shows off this system. I started laughing when they used the Knight Rider theme music in the video.

I'm not saying the Stringbike is an improvement but ... just because something has worked for 100 years doesn't mean it can't be improved upon (reinvented).

Did you ever wonder why so little software stays at version 1.0?

The modern bicycle is far from version 1.0.

True, but a version that works was finally found. I am all for improvement, but many of these projects are just trying to innovate for innovation's sake and don't actually improve the product.

I'm guessing that in the free marketplace, the better/best working (within a reasonable price range) would rise to the top, keep being used and the others would fade away.
