I dont know how this works but it would really suck if/when that string broke. I envision a large gash on your leg when the tension breaks.

interesting

Interesting mechanics... necessary? I think not. In my opinion, the Stringbike drivetrain is a solution looking for a problem.

Here's a YouTube video I found that shows off this system. I started laughing when they used the Knight Rider theme music in the video.

The Knight Rider theme music got me too. LOL!

This is the company's benefits page: http://www.stringbike.com/home/benefits/

I don't see anything about making me faster or more efficient. And I'm just not concerned about the costs associated with my chain.

Can we stop trying to reinvent a design that has worked for 100 years?

I'm not saying the Stringbike is an improvement but ... just because something has worked for 100 years doesn't mean it can't be improved upon (reinvented).

Did you ever wonder why so little software stays at version 1.0?

The modern bicycle is far from version 1.0.

True, but a version that works was finally found. I am all for improvement, but many of these projects are just trying to innovate for innovation's sake and don't actually improve the product.

It is so far from version one precisely because there were people who didn't think there should be no improvement (or re-invention) of a design that works, no?

I'm guessing that in the free marketplace, the better/best working (within a reasonable price range) would rise to the top, keep being used and the others would fade away.

The string bike has a 18 speed IGH and and a dishless rear wheel. Looks like some real innovation to me...

This reminds me of the the BioCam / PowerCam: "The bicycle of the future has arrived."
