Does anyone know if such a thing exists: maybe a plugin for Garageband or even a standalone piece of software that I can use on my Mac? I want to be able to plug in my electric guitar via the computer's 1/8" audio jack and have access to a bank of sounds. My amp is busted, and I simply can't afford to get it fixed right now. Thanks!

You may be broke, but me thinks you have too much time on your hands. :-)
Sorry, can't help you out. How is the possible move thing going?
You can use any of the presettings for any of the instrument sets (guitar, bass, voice, etc) and apply them to the guitar. Don't know of any software per se, but Belkin makes an adapter 1/4 inch female to 1/8 inch male. It's fancy and white like a mac, but I think you could buy the same thing at Radio Shack. You just plug your cord into the adapter and the adapter into your mac. Then you just have to make sure you pick "live instrument" or something like that. At that point you might have to refer to garage band's help for the instrument/ output help. Hope that answers your question
Thanks guys. I downloaded some freeware called "Riffworks" and hopefully between that and the Garageband ideas, I'm gonna be in business!

And alas, the move is going positively glacially. ;-)
