This is as significant as the flight of Charles Lindbergh across the Atlantic. All of a sudden, outer space got a lot closer.
The sticker price of this 14 storey, Falcon 9 stage 1 is roughly 60 million dollars. This baby will get you to the ISS more economically than any other vehicle available.
Occupy Mars is no joke.

New York to Paris is a bit more glamorous than Newfoundland to Galway, though.
Longer ride, too. Do you think Charles was served peanuts on that flight? I wonder if he had any problems with the seat back of the passenger in front of him? Those long haul flights can get pretty tedious.
Silly me, of course he flew first class. Free drinks and they even provided mixed nuts in a cute little serving dish (pecans, cashews, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, macadamias, no peanuts though, too risky). But I think he still had to deal with airport security before boarding. Just because you're Charles Lindbergh doesn't mean you get a free pass.
Which leads me to another question. I wonder what sort of perks he earned on that flight? Had to be pricey.
This article really puts the pieces together and SpaceX made it look easy.
The thought was that a trip to Mars would be a one way ticket. SpaceX even makes that look like really old school thinking now.
I still don't think I'll see it in my lifetime, but I'll bet my grandkids will.
