I possess a classic steel framed Schwinn tandem bike that has been sitting in storage for years and needs some work to get it back on the road again.  I am looking for a bike shop or experienced Schwinn mechanic willing to take on this project.  I am not looking to restore it to its original state, rather would like to personalize and modernize some of the features where possible (wheels, chain, cranks, tires, brakes, seats, etc).  Bonus for someone who could also help with polishing chrome and repaint frame.

I'm sure there are several good shops that could take care of this for you.

One that you should probably talk to is Barnard's Schwinn in Oak Park http://barnardsschwinn.com/bikeshop/

They do full restorations and can sometimes replace worn items with new old stock.

The examples I have seen look great.

Even if you don't need a full restoration, they can provide recommendations for a less intense approach.

They seem to usually have a few restorations on display.

Thanks I'll give them a call...

Steve - I hope you'll share some photos when the bike is all spiffed up.
