I was pretty upset and got a little attitude with them saying they were putting me in danger, ect, ect. Thank you to the riders who knew the route on the main streets and took me with them up to Fullerton. They told me the whole trail was closed but one officer said it was only blocked to North Ave. I was able to hop back on the trail at the Diversy/Belmont underpass.

They kept saying that the trail closes at 9:30pm. I know the parks close but it is really a thing that the trail closes as well? If so, that is just not OK...

The trail is park district property as is the beach / lakefront, it closes at 11pm. Can't say why it was closed at 9:30 the other night. I'm sure the police had a good reason though. The lakefront is getting a lot of attention lately because of the Montrose Beach riot.

I was up at North ave beach last summer around the same time, maybe it was closer to 10, and a CPD officer on a 4 wheeler came roaring up to our group play ultimate in the empty v-ball courts and said we needed to leave.  We started to protest and she not-so-kindly asked if we wanted to argue in the back of a squad and that they were shutting down the beach.  Not more than a few minutes later as we were gathering our things and walking out a cop car came by chasing some youths.  Turns out they had some trouble with a gang fight north of us and it was pushing south as they were chasing offenders.

The lake front can be a volatile mix during the summer so I go expecting to have to hang at Elly's or Starbucks if needed.  Sad but true about our awesome city.

I'll keep that in mind for next time, very doubtful my reaction helped my cause.

I've had officers tell me to leave the trail as they're closing the parks at 11. I just say "oh, sure--my house is at the next exit." and they let me go. A smile and a lie go a long way with police officers.

Responding reasonably and treating them like people usually helps your cause.
