Happy Spring!

The derailleur  assembly parties are back!  Please stop by West Town Bikes/Ciclo Urbano this Wed, 3/23, where we'll be cutting, collating and stapling to help make light work of assembling the special art show edition of The Derailleur, "an unofficial zine of Chicago Critical Mass."

Break the Gridlock is helping organize and promote this monthly event as an evolution of last year's UnHappy Hours. It's a great way to lighten willow's load of publishing the zine  while  mingling  and scheming with other grassroots transportation activists. Feel free to contribute libations, nibbles and band-aids to the table.

Start time is 6:30pm at West Town Bikes/Ciclo Urbano, 1147 N. Campbell. We'll be in the conference room, so people should come to the Ciclo entrance.  Knock on the Ciclo Door for entrance after 7pm.   http://www.thechainlink.org/events/derailleur-assembly-party

Big thanks to willow, Lee, Steven and West Town Bikes/Ciclo Urbano!

And, remember that this Friday, March 25, is Critical Mass  and the Bike Winter Art Show Closing Party, where locally designed and produced bike fashion and accessories will be available for sale. The local bicyclerati will be pedaling out on the runway on their favorite rides flaunting their own style with a little help from the fashion savvy folks at Rapid Transit Cycleshop. The Racketeers will perform, and DJs will fill in the rest. Details at http://chicagocriticalmass.org/artshow

Speaking of Critical Mass, March 12 marked the one year anniversary of Chicago's Kidical Mass Rides. Check out this video of the next generation of massers by Steve Marchese.  http://youtu.be/7nNuF253hSk   Join the Kidical Mass conversation here:  http://www.thechainlink.org/group/kidicalmass

on behalf of Break the Gridlock

Break the Gridlock is a Chicago-based non-profit dedicated to supporting a vibrant network of grass roots activists and advocates who work to reduce dependency on the private automobile. It grew from the energy, dining room tables and bar stools of area transportation activists who met through Chicago's Critical Mass rides. We needed a name and a bank account so we could put on conferences and act as an umbrella for grassroots projects, such as Bike Winter (BTG currently acts as Bike Winter's fiscal agent), the Zoning for Transportation Equity Coalition and the Campaign for a Free and Clear Lakefront (ie Depave Lake Shore Drive). Contact info@breakthegridlock.org to learn more and get involved.
