Claims that every single Ontario cycling death between 2006 and 2010 would have been prevented if the victim had been wearing a helmet.

Troublemaker.

I am most disturbed by the finding that I can reduce my chances of being in a fatal accident (-600%) if I undergo a sex change operation.

No it doesn't.  It says that all the cycling deaths were preventable.  It does not attribute "preventable" exclusively to helmet use.

I believe all corpses should be wearing a helmet when they are riding a bicycle.

This brings to the front of my mind a question that has been floating around....are bicycle helmets tested in any way for the construction/safety of them?  I am guessing that motorcycle helmets are?

I thought it smelled like teen spirit -oh, well...whatever...never mind.

It was really the reporter who was blaming the victim. Helmet usage was only a small part of the coroner's recommendations. Overall the coroner's conclusions take a holistic approach to cyclist safety and made several good recommendations. Unfortunately, only the helmet part got printed in the paper.

This has generated a bit of discussion yesterday and today on Toronto's I Bike TO blog.

I like the link to Toronto not for the helmet talk zzzzzzzzzz ......because I think it's always a total red herring.  Equally boring on the Chainlink. Let's stop talking about the hemets. Either people wear them or don't.

But that family on the great lane is interesting. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ibiketo/5640758514

Re-posting/rewording of thoughts, links, ideas, and "+1's" make up the vast majority of posts here.  You'll get used to it.

As boring as the helmet debate is for many, it seems like we're at a turning point where the "science" and benefits of helmet use is gaining more traction in the media.  You would think this would have happened sooner in our evolution since bikes have been around so long, though.

Bike helmet sales is BIG business.
