The Chainlink

I recently biked Ogden Avenue from the town of Lyons to Damen Avenue.  The next day I biked Elston from Damen to past Cicero Avenue.

Elston has a defined bike lane.  Ogden is speedy and relatively smooth from Lyons to Cicero Avenue, but then darn rugged from Cicero to Western Avenue.  Ogden lacks a bike lane as far as I can tell.

Why bike lanes on one major angled street and not on the other?

Are Ogden and Elston vastly different widths? I know Elston very well, but I don't get down on to Ogden that much.
Ogden and Elston seem to be about the same in width and carrying capacity.

Quick scan with Google Earth reveals that there isn't any room for bikes lane on Ogden in its current configuration. The other NW routes (Milwaukee, Lincoln, Clark) also lack bike lanes where you can't fit them.
Ogden is two lanes each direction (3 in some strecthes), Elston is one lane in each direction. Ogden has a much higher carrying capacity than Elston, in fact more than any of the NW streets until you get far out.
Ogden generally seems to have more big trucks than Elston.

I may be wrong but if I recall correctly Ogden is part of the historic Illinois US route 66. Perhaps that has something to do with it. Pure speculation but just my $.02.
Yes, it is part of Route 66 and has signage for it.

Don' say you haven't been warned either Eddie C.

Noone said you can't talk about bike lanes. What we said is to obey forum rules, not attack other members, not to post redundant threads, and in general, try acting civil.

Bye bye Eddie.

Please, Do not start any forums about bike lanes on the chainlink, Take it from me! I learned the hard way, Better yet put a Bulls eye on your back, be able to take shots, and yet refrain from responding to shots in an uncivil fashion on this forum. Freedom of speech only applies to a certain few on this forum. If you really want something to happen, and not just ramble,, take the quest on your own- gather support and go to the CDOT WebSite and their other links get in touch with them, they will be able to give you accurate information, as opposed replies like - Big Trucks and Google Earth, and other nonsense listed in this forum. Don't say you have not been warned! Good Luck.
Well said, Lee. I'll second that.
