Something I don't get to see everyday...

Saw this on my ride in this morning.

I love this city.

I love the sound of a rooster as long as he lives at least a few blocks away. I share your love of this city. Thanks for reminding me!

I also love how a bunch of sustainable practices that are coming into vogue now (drying clothes outdoors, raising chickens, gardening, and even riding bicycles) have been ways of life for people in the less wealthy parts of town since before any of us were even born.

But the question is - did he cross the road? And, why?!

I thought that hens are OK in Chicago, but roosters are not.

Holy crap! That was supposed to be my dinner!

But wait, there's more...

...of course there's more...

Chicago has no limitations on keeping roosters and chickens other than the regular nuisance ordinance.
Having said that, keeping a rooster is a surefire way to tick off your neighbors. Being a chicken owner for nearly five years now, I would strongly advise against getting a rooster.

Then of course there's the urban Chicken-of-the-Sea:

I sat next to that guy on the Purple line last week.
