The Chainlink

i was riding along the lakeshore today east of the Waveland Golf Course and came across some real devastation.   I'm not sure how long this has been this way, but it looks fresh to me, considering the crazy waves we've had lately, and the runner I ran into said that a few days ago there was 10 foot wide path of passable area.  Today it is completely unpassable.

The Park Dept has blocked this off with a chainlink gate that was pushed open to make passing possible when I saw it (it was essentially open except for a sign saying otherwise).

I'm guessing this erosion is very fresh.  Can anyone confirm/deny?

It has been blocked off with a fence all summer - maybe for the past 2 summers. I used to use that, what I call fakey path, as a little backroad to go oer to Montrose harbor all the time. But haven't ridden back there in over a month. It looks like it's gotten really bad. It was always passable, even with the fence up. It was pretty common to see people get around the fence and the path back there was wide enough to accommodate at least 2 bikes in each direction. But, this looks really, really bad. I'd be curious to know how recently it's gotten that severe. I'll have to take a look next time I'm able to get out there in daylight. Looks like the days of the fakey path are over. I can't believe it. I used that shortcut for years.
Wow!  I haven't gone that way in a few months, but it was a lot wider than that last time I went through.

Hey...I saw this and thought of your post...

You are right on.

It was like that last year, it may have creeped up a bit but it's also on of the only sections not walled.
I go down that section a lot. It's been bad since last year, but this looks much worse than it was even a month ago. I have been meaning to call the city to ask what they were going to do about the erosion. This is a really pretty section to walk or bike--would be a shame if it stays impassable indefinitely.
That last storm really did a number with the wind. if you guys get a chance check out the sand drifts along the beach(s) benches covered, and they had to plow sand off the bike trail.
