I've been seeing a lot of runners in the bike lanes this summer, especially around augusta and damen (anecdotal however because I pass this intersection on my way home) during the evening rush hour. This obviously creates a dangerous passing situation for cyclists and not to mention is just extremely inconsiderate.

This evening I yelled at a runner (who also had headphones in to make things worse) to let him know that it was dangerous, he caught up to me at a light and completely shrugged me off and said he does it all the time. I tried to emphasize that it was the BIKE lane with the picture and everything to prove it but I didn't seem to change his mind.

I'm curious to see how other cyclists deal with this-- tips, suggestions, should I just accept that these jerks will always exist and begrudgingly pass them?

Not a fan of sharing the street bike lane with them. They have the use of a sidewalk.

Drives me crazy when runners have buds in both ears and can't hear a word anyone says. They are also usually the same runners that will step left without looking behind them on the lakefront trail. I usually pass them with a lot of buffer for this reason.

The only practical way to stop drivers from parking in the bike lanes or runners using them is to have more bikes in them.  People will do whatever they can get away with.  Roadside lectures don't work.  Only when there are so many bikes that driving or running in the lanes becomes a PITA, will they desist.  So get out and ride!

I sincerely hope this is the case although there were about three or four cyclists riding about at pace with me that had to pass him too so I'm not sure if that would deter this particular gentleman.

The runners are preparing for "The Rock 'N' Roll Half Marathon" scheduled for Sunday, July 17, 2016.

Starts 6:30 am till ~10:00 am. Wake up Sunday, ride in, watch the sunrise and the fun.

The 6O6 has been jammed with runners training now.
Makes sense. Thanks for the reminder. When I ran, I lived by Lincoln Park and used the jogging path for the same reason.

Yeah, I agree that it makes sense and I see the advantage for runners to not have to deal with dodging strollers and the like-- one would just hope that logic would prevail here since it's a particular narrow stretch of damen (grand to augusta) for passing, I would think that other cyclists are yelling at him too but maybe everyone else is just more patient than I am?

I had to deal with one in that same area. He was running the wrong way in the bike lane. Considering he watched me almost get hit by a car because of having to avoid him he learned something.

This is the only area that I really have regularly encountered this issue, not sure what gives

Yeah, I agree that cyclists on sidewalks happens much more often, I guess I have an easier time with letting go of that because it hasn't really presented any huge safety risks for me (most of the time anyway) apart from being annoying at times.

From today's TDF (spoiler alert - don't watch if you plan on watch a taped delay of today's stage): https://twitter.com/BritishCycling/status/753612352508010496

Poor Froome. Really sucks. I think he gets a pass for running in the bike lane.
