Looking for witnesses: hit and run at Lawrence and Bernard

Hi folks,

I'm reaching out to see if I can find anyone who witnessed the car that hit me today. I am ok and I actually did not fall of my bike, although my back is sore from the force. My back wheel is a little messed up and my pannier went flying into the middle of the road and some stuff inside broke.

It happened today, Monday, September 8 at approximately 10:30 am at the corner of Lawrence and Bernard. I was in the bike lane going east down Lawrence and the driver was heading north on Bernard trying to cross Lawrence. That intersection is often blocked because of traffic backed up from the Lawrence and Kimball intersection which is the next block east. Anyway, the driver was trying to slip through the cars backed up from the light at Kimball and Lawrence and just drove into me while I was riding. I believed that they saw me (I'm hard to miss) and that they were going to stop but they just kept slowly moving out, going forward a few feet then stopping, etc. Luckily, he or she was going slow and I was able to mostly slip by. Like I said, my back wheel was essentially clipped, I stayed on my bike, but I lost my pannier.

The messed up thing was that they didn't stop. I was trying to collect my stuff in the street and they sped off, crossed Lawrence, and then turned west up the alley just after the Lawrence intersection. They were driving a mid-sized black SUV. I remember thinking that it looked low-end like an Isuzu or a Kia. It did have Illinois license plates, but I could not make out the number.

I know this is a long shot, but if anyone saw it and even got the license plate please be in touch with me! Thanks!

Isn't Ainslie an E/W street?  I'm confused as to where this was.  I didn't think they intersected.

Jared is right. I assume you were talking about Bernard.

I hope you are ok and that somebody saw the driver.

Yes, Bernard. Thank you. I'm going to edit the original post.

I wasn't near there but I just want to offer my sympathies about such an unsettling incident. I hope your next commute is better.

Are there any cameras at the intersection? Could be overhead police cam, or a business with one directed toward street? I would see a doctor, and patrol that intersection a couple times at the same hour. I hope you catch the prick.
