Does anyone know which portion of the LFP will be closed tomorrow morning for the triathalon?  Riding down south and need to know where I can get on the path.

LFT conditions/closing came up recently.  Active Trans maintains a page on their website.  Might scroll around there.

We believe the trail is open tomorrow, no closure for the tri or movie shoots.

Thanks,

Ethan Spotts, Active Trans

Take Wells south to Kinzie to Dearborn to the Loop - cut over to Wabash and head south - great buffered bike lane all the way to Cermak after Harrison.  Go left on Cermak and right on MLK to 31st st.

If it is closed during the entire morning, does anyone have an idea of a safe alternate route from Lincoln Park to 31st?

If it is, just go a block past to make the left and take Michigan south instead of MLK.

Is it true that Cermak (in that area) is closed due to Transformers filming?  A co worker had thought so.

Are these neighborhoods pretty decent to ride through? I commute to Hyde Park every day. I recently started getting on and off the LFP at 18th but was thinking it would be nice on really windy days if I could do it at 31st.

Wide open 3 lane roads that hardly anyone drives on.  I find it kind of hilarious how empty Chicago is just south of the Loop.

The run course looks like its on the trail at least a little near the Shedd.

I have not been near it recently, but a few years ago they detoured me from the trail at 31st (coming from the south).

Parts of the course are on the trail especially south of the museum campus.  You can try riding on the course but there will be a few thousand runners on the path so getting through safely might be tough.  Especially when the runners are not expecting bikes and are a little zoned out after having swum 1500m and biked 40k in the previous 90 minutes or so.

I've ridden there in daytime and evening and had plenty of lovely rides with no hazards beyond the usual traffic hassles. King Drive and Michigan tend to be fast and easy (supplemented by Indiana where Michigan is one way).  Further south, I like Cottage Grove and Drexel.

After living on the south side for several years, I've gotten a bit spoiled by the lack of congestion that's the rule rather than the exception on most south side streets most hours of the day/week. When I ride on the north side, I'm often reminded of what I *don't* miss about riding on the north side - lots of congestion and too many entitled drivers.

Each year?... The LFP is not advised from approx. may/june until about sept/oct.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
