Late Ride masked riders?

Did anyone else doing Late Ride on Saturday see a group of people on bikes wearing black masks?  I heard one of them yelling at the group as we went past, seemingly mocking us for participating.

Anyone know what they were protesting and/or trying to get across?

Ha!!! No protesting what so ever... just being silly and participating along with everyone on the ride. It was all in fun and do appreciate so many people getting on their bikes and taking over the streets at night. If anyone was offended... sorry. Definitely proud of everyone on their bikes that night! Darn us hooligans and our tomfoolery

The late ride was being audited by a group who rides the streets from midnight to dawn year round.

For free.

Indead, T'was the "Marauditors". If we were protesting anything, it's the belief that you need a formal city sanctioned ride to be on the streets on a bike. Also that the Late ride is billed as the only after midnight ride in Chicago. We have been doing midnight rides for over 5 years, every month, year round, without fail. Never missed one. But we don't exist because we don't charge $, and are not sanctioned by the city.

Yet another reason I am glad I did not pay to be a part of that ride. The ignorance in that statement is apparent even when it is not coupled with the fact that many of the people they took money from to be a part of the Late Ride would use a velodrome.

Never mind the fact that no one uses a velodrome in Chicago because there is no velodrome in Chicago. Although I am sure all the people who go to Northbrook would appreciate one closer to home...

First I think McDonalds should be making a donation on my behalf for participating in the ride. like $10 for every person that shows up. 9k people X $10 = $90000 like an hourss worth of profit for food chain. its shit like that they should be sponsoring. making America fat.. continues with charging you to lose it

I got a good chuckle out of two conversations I overheard from the radios of the event coordinators during the ride.

#1) "Why the hell are people screaming, what's going on?" "I think they are yelling Midnight Marauders or something."

#2) "We got a rider with an open beer can in his hand, over."


I've got some video I'm gonna string together of the ride. I'll put it up some time this week.

The World Naked Bike ride should coincide with the late ride just for kicks and also because the weather is so much nicer. Perhaps some of those oblivious Late Riders would get confused and actually join in.
