The Chainlink

According to Alderman Reilly, it is going to be relocated to Grand Ave. because of the impact that the Wolf Point development will have on traffic.  Hopefully it will connect all the way to Milwaukee Ave.  Source:  bitly.com/VN8x9p

Isn't that usually the way it goes?  What we get is the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Cynic that I am, I assume that there was a lot more going on behind the scenes than what is indicated in any of the newspaper articles ;-).

. . . .  Does anyone else get the feeling that there was a lot more going on behind the scenes yesterday than what's indicated in the Trib and Sun-Times articles?  ;0

Wow!  Interesting turn in developments for the development (little pun).

I live in the 47th ward and we were super lucky that the developers doing the Marianos store and Belgravia group, building the rental development, really listened to the concerns of the residents and Alderman Pawar.  Every meeting they seemed to tweak their plans according to our concerns from the last community meeting.

Interesting! The Marianos construction project in the 3rd(?) ward has been blocking most of the sidewalk on Clark St for weeks now.

Do you mean the one by 17th Street?

Not sure if this is good or bad.  If Reilly is true to his word, this could be a good thing.  If not (and sometimes repeated delays like this turn into stealth back room approvals), maybe not.  Stay tuned.

This DNA Info article has a link to all the drawings of the proposed project. Somehow I had missed that it includes a surface parking lot as part of it. Seriously? In 2012, in a prime spot in the heart of the city, someone is proposing a surface lot.

Looks odd to me - more like a version of the plan with only one tower and most of the existing surface parking preserved.  I wonder if including that was an error.  It's not consistent with the other images.

Check out this aerial view of the site.

Michelle -- You had me worried there for a minute. But it looks like DNA Info oddly just posted Phase 1 photos. The surface parking lot will be built over (if the project moves forward). Download the presentation here to see the site plan and renderings without the surface parking: http://www.wolfpointchicago.com/content/projectoverview

Oh, phew. Thanks for that, Lee. Except for that surface lot, I thought the design looks pretty nice.
