I would love to know the details of that route.
I don't think this is accurate...the only route I've ever heard of is the same route being discussed elsewhere in this thread.
I’d say the answer is “kinda sorta”: you can ride along the lake from Calumet Park: take Ave G to the yaht club and just keep going. That trail connects to the Marqette Greenway in Whiting, via Front Street. The greenway will take you back southwest (away from the big lake) to Wolf Lake. The entry to Wolf Lake Park is currently being improved: they’re building a great bridge but it isn’t paved yet. It’s easy to cross Calumet at the light, though.
It’s a little unintuitive in spots, but the way is very find-able, especially if you look at the map ahead of time to get a general orientation. And it’s a really pleasant ride!
OK. The way the comment was worded made it sound like the writer thinks there is an all-lakefront way to get from downtown Chicago to Wolf Lake, which there is not.
Finally got a route: https://www.strava.com/routes/14027748
I also attached a GPX file if you have a bike computer with navigation.Wolf%20Lake.gpx
^This is a great route. (Though it is not lakefront-only just in case anyone is confused by its place in the thread.)
Maybe I'm dim but I've read through here a few times as well as the Reader article and I'm still not 100% clear. Is it actually bike path all the way to 3 Floyd's from the state border? Just to clear up any questions, could you summarize your awesome route? Much appreciated
Not completely. All but maybe 3-5 miles.
From the Skyway trail north of Wolf Leak you can either go around the east of it or over it via bike path. You can follow that path/trail nearly all the way to the Hammond South Shore Station. From there you can ride low traffic residential/industrial roads south into Hammond and you will essentially want to ride to 18th St. Brewery. From there you pickup the Monon Trail which heads straight south all the way into Munster. This trail ends just north of Three Floyds. This area is currently under heavy construction and rebuilding, but you can easily get to Three Floyds from this point.
If needed I can show you my Strava route.
