Something similar has happened to a friend on the North branch trail, except for it was two deer in this case and the end result was a broken collarbone.

A friend of mine was charged and hit by a rutting stag deer down near Carbondale some years ago. Male deer (and antelopes apparently,) are very dangerous during mating season.
