improved Goose Island access

How did I miss this news item last fall? I've got a job interview on Goose Island and was trying to figure out my commute options. I was discussing it with a friend, who mentioned that there is now legitimate bike and ped access from the north. Yeah!

Way to go, CDOT! This is a very welcome change.

All those RR tracks at weird angles make the riding a bit challenging on many streets in this area. Good place to keep an eye on the pavement to avoid catching a wheel in the tracks.

I work on Hooker and the bridge while an acess to goose island is not necesarilly easy to hooker. Lots of RR tracks intersecting at weird angles plus the traffic on division. I enter on Cherry (where the bridge exits) and keep on cherry (rt fork) to Division. 4 way stop here, makes crossing easier. from there you can go up Division (left) to Hooker or keep on Cherry to North Branch ( go to Halstead or turn left on Haines to Hooker.

There were a LOT of trees near this one that were wrapped for protection. There were also a bunch of stumps left by beavers.

Been beavers on the north branch of theriver for at least 10 yrs. Before our company moved to goose island we had some river front on kingsbury and the beavers took down quite a few trees. The city had to relocate some because of the damage they did.
