I rode today.

Rain rain go away .....

I failed to check the weather report, and hopped on my bike. Streets were damp, and some sprinkles started halfway to work. Hopefully things clear up before I go home...

I rode today.  It was fun

Strava, Strava, Strava!

I don't understand the attraction. In fact, I'd argue it causes needless risk, at least in many urban settings. If you zoom in on Chicago in the Strava Labs heatmap, you'll see that LFT is the most heavily Strava'd route in the city. I guess that would account for all the Lakefront Lances you see there who seem to ride with complete disregard for the safety of other users of the path.

I realize that many people probably use Strava as a simple route mapper, but it certainly gets a ton of use as a performance comparison/challenge tool as well. If I did my math correctly, Aaron's average speed was 15.3mph. Given that roughly five miles of his route were on city streets which likely slowed him down a little (street lights and traffic), my guess is his average speed on LFT was probably closer to 20mph. Hopefully the path was empty mid-afternoon yesterday. There are plenty of places on the northern half of LFT where you can't safely ride at those speeds with others are about.

Today I averaged 15 MPH on the way in.  Not many folks on the LFP this morning.

Im on a Surly Long Haul Trucker in street clothes with a pannier and get passed frequently by people on road bikes wearing full kits and clipped in.  In the afternoon the LFP is not a place to rock it out Strava style since its way too busy.

I dont ride like a d bag when its crowded.

Sorry, I was unaware of that. Though it was clearly meant as humor, there is a grain of truth in such stories. It would likely not have been written if Strava usage wasn't out of control in some area. The beltline multi-use path described in the piece sounds a lot like LFT.

Stop shoaling me

When did I ever do that?
