I rode 15 miles today, thankfully before, and after the worst of it. The kicker is have $150 worth of carbide studded tires. This is the first day in several years that studded tires would have warranted use, and mine are not even on wheels. Hell, I don't even have tubes for them any more.

At 5:30 when I walked the dogs the sidewalks still had ice in places and so did the streets. An hour ago, when I left it was mostly gone except for a few spots on the side streets close to the parked cars. Other than the darned mist on my glasses it was a fine ride!

I rode in this morning, first day after a week off due to shoulder injury. It was a good ride and I had a good interaction with a driver - which is very unusual. She stopped me at a stop sign on Hubbard and said I was the smartest biker she's seen because of my lights/reflective vest. She said she really has difficulty seeing bikers this time of year that aren't using them.

I decided awhile ago that I would always have at least a rear flasher going (and obviously more lights and reflective clothing as the situation dictates), even on a sunny summer day riding further in light traffic in the 'burbs. I am amazed that many people will ride with nothing, especially between dusk and dawn.

Let's be careful out there...

I don't typically use lights during the day, but I always have a rear flasher and bright front headlight at night or fog.

This is my favorite weather to ride in. Had to change my rear tube about 1.5 miles into my ride. I have voiced my dislike of quick-release before (because ease of thief) , but today I was very grateful for them! However, my 'quick' change wasn't a complete success. I have a bugle in the tire and now have it sitting in my cube hopefully I can fix it at lunch.

I am a little jealous spencewine. No one ever tells me how awesome I look in my Hi-Viz Vest (& always 2 rear & 2 white flash/solid lights). As long as they see me, I guess I will just deal!

I'm a little more sore than I thought I'd be today...but just bruised, nothing serious. I think the main problem is I had to drive to South Bend and back, so I spent way too much of the morning stuck in a car.

The studs were barely useful on the ride home, and I'll probably take the normal bike this AM.

Thoughtful of mother nature to schedule the treacherous stuff to be largely gone by Monday A.M.

It's icy on the side streets. I was fine leaving downtown tonight, but hit a sheet of ice and wiped out within a block of my apt.

Not sure it's worth the investment in the studs, though...it's supposed to be in the 50's in a couple days.
