I am interested in purchasing a camera to mount on my helmet or frame. I nearly collided with a cab the other night, on his err, and realized it may be helpful to catch evidence of bad motorists in case I'm not as lucky next time!

I've been recommended GoPro. They're not cheap ($200-$350+) and I'm insure if I need all those bells and whistles to just monitor my rides down Dearborn.

Anyone have recommendations or can suggest cheaper alternatives for a non-extreme commuter?

Check out the Veho Muvi lineup. Easily half the price of GoPro on Amazon.

I've heard good things about the Monoprice camera. $98 plus shipping.

Thanks for the info! Didn't see this thread when I ran a keyword search on the forum.

I ended up putting my helmet cam to the side after about a week and not going back to it-- the extra weight was starting to mess with my neck.  Yours for $20.....

Yeah, the search function kinda sucks. I hear it will be vastly improved with the upcoming redesign.

For $20 I could put it on my car and record thrilling trips to get breakfast on Saturday mornings.  With a bonus trip to the supermarket.

I have the Contour, but it is as pricey as others.

The Contour company went under, and you can no longer buy their cameras. I think Amazon still has some in stock, though.

Santa gave me a Hero 3+ Black early for Christmas. It was supplemented by $100 off from Interbike, so he was happy to do so. To show my appreciation, I sent him a video of me falling down.

Monitoring rides is a small set of why I got this camera, so you might be best off with other recommendations here. I will say that the GoPro has some cool features built in that are very easy to use. You can set it to record loops and erase anything above the 5 or 10 minutes you set it to. This would be a good feature for monitoring rides. So far all of the mounts have been sturdy and give me plenty of options for angles.
