Got Doored?
Ever since I started riding in Chicago over two years ago I've been careful to ride that fine line between moving traffic and parked cars. Yesterday that all went to pot when someone didn't look and opened their car door right into my hip. Luckly I walked away injury free, but stunned none the less. At the time I didn't even think to get the lady's info, I was just please that neither I nor my bike were damaged. I even went down to Iron Cycles and had them give the bike a look. The only thing that was injured was my cell phone, which was in my right pocket, and as it seems took the impact for me.

Glad you're okay!
It just amazes me that people don't look before they open their doors and not necessarily even for bikes, but for other CARS! It's ingrained in me to always look before I open my door....just like looking both ways before you cross the street.

Agreed. I see so many people walk out between parked cars to their car door and never ONCE look back at oncoming traffic. Blows my mind.

Glad you are OK!
Keep an eye on that cell phone. Be careful where you put that as a damaged cell battery can spontaneously burst into flame and they have a lot of chemical energy stored up inside of them so they can start a pretty bad fire.
Place the battery somewhere where it won't burn your place down if it does flame out like on a concrete or stone floor before you find a place to recycle it.

Ya. I'd pay good money to see a car door get torn off by another car as a result of someone just throwing caution to the wind and whipping that door open into traffic.

glad you're ok. it's a shame so many drivers (and passengers) open doors into moving traffic without looking first. it's against the law...not to mention common sense. in the meantime, ride defensively and stay out of the door zone! remember, the the door is always open...

Holy hell. If there is even the slightest trace of pure, unbridled hatred ever coursing through my veins it is undoubtedly reserved for the vile realm of inhumanity known as public art.

Yes, the door zone, it is what I have come to experience of late by pulling on those open doors without falling off just to let those dummys know just how close they are to ruining a cyclists day.

It was the screen that was damaged. The battery is fine, but I'm thankful to know that. I'm planning on getting a replacement soon.
