I'm with my 7 year old son on the Lakefront Path on a crowded Sunday around 11am. I've taught him to use caution, stay to the right, pass on the left, ring your bell to let people know you are approaching, and be ready for something unexpected to happen.  Traffic was heavy and three spandex dudes (in traffic) start passing us on the right in the grass and gravel.  My son is surprised, but holds his lane well and doesn't crash.  I turned to the guy to my right in the gravel (who has slowed because he's now pedaling behind a jogger) and ask "Is this your first time on the path?" He smiles and sarcastically replies; "Nope. My second."

I say "If you're looking for the peloton it's in western France."

He frowns, waves me off, and pulls away.

Yep. Good comeback dav227.

Sounds like your 7yo has more skills and common sense than some adult riders. Good on him and good on you for teaching him those skills.

:~)

Well done!
