Hey All,
I am planning to ride from Chicago (Buckingham Fountain) to Milford, MI (Metro-Detroit) pretty soon. Has anybody done a similar ride? I can use any tips/advice on getting out of Chicago and through Gary. Also, I understand that U.S. 12 is decent riding once into Michigan.
Any advice is appreciated. I will update the Great Lakes Adventure Project site when all is said and done (read: I am nursing saddle sore and sipping a beer).

There may be others. A Google search will probably turn them up:

This is three trails in Indiana, avoiding Gary. From the end you can take Calumet Trail. Gravel, not paved.
I did this in 2007: https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/page/?o=1&page_id=57198&...
ride to Wisco, take the ferry across the lake.
I biked to Detroit a couple of year's ago, and the first day's ride wasn't the prettiest, but really wasn't bad. Here's our whole route, day by day. It took us on a couple of dirt roads, and one road that was WAY too busy at rush hour, but otherwise it was a really great ride. Good luck!
