funding for biking and walking projects threatened in Congress

Three proposed amendments to the federal transportation bill that's currently in the House are a potentially serious threat to funding for future biking and walking infrastructure projects.

"Amendment 68 would forbid funds from the $10 billion Surface Transportation Program from being spent on walking and biking projects."

Amendment 69 would effectively eliminate one dedicated pool of funding for biking and walking projects.

"Amendment 158 would zero out the federal funding that goes to trails each year as part of the Transportation Alternatives program — about $85 million per year..."

Another Amendment (131) would give greater control to local governments on how they spend federal transportation funding and increase transparency on how that funding is spent.  This is also worth taking time for a request to your rep. http://action.smartgrowthamerica.org/p/dia/action3/common/public/?a...
