Thanks for the post and link. David Byrne is a true Renaissance Man. Way to go!
I found his recent book, Bicycle Diaries, to be a good read. He's been an urban biker for a long time, and ridden in some challenging places. He was part of the inspiration for me getting a folding bike.
Does anyone here know where the forum is happening?

The WXRT site says it is at the Cultural Center, but the City's site says it is at Daley Plaza.

Thanks!

It is sold out, by the way.
Picture Time courtesy of Steven Vance Link here.
And here is a link to a video of Randy Neufeld's presentation at the event. He is the director of the SRAM Cycling Fund.

Did i mention my famous bike winter cat was found under his porch (we are neighbors). The Time Out Chicago Issue is here. How ironic is that? But this isn't about my cat Rami. I digressed..... Just watch the presentation. It's good.
The whole event was good! David Byrne was pretty funny and inspiring. Some of the funniest moments where when he graciously served as the "AV dork" for some of the other presenters who were a bit less saavy with the presentation software. Byrne also had a pretty great tendency to answer a question briefly and succinctly and then move his microphone away in a way that made it clear that he was done yammering on that point.

Randy is always great. You can see that for yourselves.

Jacki Grimshaw was, uh, a bit unfocused and while her slides were kind of fancy, it was not always clear to me how they related to what she was talking about. Her energy and clear disdain for interstates was pretty enlivening.

Deputy Commissioner Luann Hamilton of CDOT was pretty great also. She seems to get biking and if she is truly representing CDOT I think we have some reasons to be optimistic about the the city. It was fun to hear about the Navy Pier flyover which seems like it will happen, pending some negotiations with Lake Point Tower. My only disappointment was that she would occasional refer to "separated" bike lanes, but in her parlance this only means a painter buffer area, not physically separated bike lanes.

There was plenty of time for questions from the audience at the end, and fortunately, no-one asked anything about the Talking Heads or anything embarrassing like that.
Cool article. I was disappointed that I couldn't get a ticket to the forum.
Anne,

I've posted the video to Randy Neufeld's entire presentation (which I think is the best one for people on this forum to watch and get inspired) to Vimeo. I've also paraphrased his 10 ideas for bicycling in Chicago.

I won tickets to the forum and it was...awesome. It was seriously one of the best things I've ever been to. I came home from there and applied to work/volunteer at all of the organizations :) I'm so glad you guys have some of the videos, I've been trying to find them to send out. Thanks!
