Do You Use Strava? You'll Want to Read This Alert About Bike Thieves

Thieves in the UK had been using Strava to pinpoint high-end bikes. This is something that can definitely happen in the U.S.

Think twice about posting 'Track My Ride' (Strava) app results or pictures of your bike on social media sites, especially if your home address can also be viewed. Most Track My Ride apps have settings which stop within a given distance of your home address. Check your security settings and set at least a 1000m exclusion zone around your house.


There's also a warning about leaving your bike for "just a minute" when you run in to get the paper or go back into your house if you forgot something. Many bikes are taken when an owner leaves it unattended briefly. Bring the bike back with you or lock it up!
