Just got this email, so don't plan to ride Divvy home today:


 



 



 


Good morning.

Due to the weather, we will temporarily close Divvy at 12:00PM on Thursday, January 2, 2014 to protect the safety of our members and staff. No bikes can be rented after the temporary closure has begun, though any bikes in use at the time can be returned to any Divvy station with an available dock.

If you have any question about whether the system is open or closed, please call to speak with a Member Service Representative at 1-855-55-DIVVY (553-4889). You can also find the latest updates on the
Divvy website, Facebook, and Twitter. Members will also be informed of closure and re-opening via email.



In December, we served nearly 45,000 trips, and we're looking forward to serving many more this winter.

The anonymous internet brings out people who were not able to be the traditional "school yard bully." The only problem I have with this board is the shark like attacks. When one person attacks other swarm in. Thankfully, Divvy is back so I can take advantage of my membership. Still hoping they will give me 2 extra days of Divvy use.

It's kind of cool to have a legit hater. It's making me feel really important and powerful, like I matter enough for someone to dedicate hours of his life to personally attacking me in such a passionate way. I mean I criticize (and commend) Divvy because it's a big deal and something very important for society. It's something I think worth spending my limited time on. So I'm quite overwhelmed with humility when someone spends that kind of time and effort on me.

David Moore, I'm not sure what's going on in your life man. I know things are tough some times especially for attorneys. It seems like half my high school class are lawyers, some doing great and some struggling. If you need any help please don't be shy to ask me personally. Otherwise, I sincerely hope things get better for you.

Everyone please be nice to Davis Moore as well. You never know what it's like to walk in someone else's shoes.

Anyway, back on topic!

Divvy did a nice job IMO. I think Carrie has been dead-on insisting they will learn to be better. The reasoning this time was good, the communication was good, even the extra day seemed totally justified. I felt like Divvy was doing the right thing at each step. I can't wait to run some errands on one of their super blue bikes tomorrow.

I think Divvy has done a great job overall, but after my experiences today I see why they need to have days out of service.  Even today it was difficult wrestling the bikes from the docks as many were still surrounded by snow.  I had to call due to not being able to re-dock a bike this morning.  I was able to re-dock twice this evening and a third time at my destination (I have a fairly long commute made slower by the weather) but was only able to re-dock at locations where a bike had recently been removed.  A lot of the docks are still covered in snow.  The bikes also aren't very agile over unshoveled sidewalks, but that's not Divvy's fault.

Thanks for your opinions. After considering them I've decided I will continue to post as I find necessary or enjoyable despite your objections.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to hear your germane, and on-point insights and opinions about the Divvy system. So please do share.

I don't hate you, or anyone else here. I do however find your incessant, baseless maligning and impugning of people, projects and programs that you know almost nothing about to be fantastically obnoxious.

I would put forth that viewed from a different angle it is in fact people like you who might be considered the real bullies, the way you routinely toss out accusations and criticisms about people in real life based on only the most cursory knowledge and understanding of the issues.

(Although both you and Adam seem to be balancing your knee jerk criticisms with a little thoughtfulness and appreciation now, after getting hosed for being such wet blankets, so maybe there's a little balance in the world.) 

And don't flatter yourself that I spend hrs. on you, I'm a much faster typist than that. I just happened to be away from my computer for several days (holidays and all) and just got caught up on all the bloviating.

(PS: I don't know where you got the idea that I'm an attorney, but, uh, no.)

Agreed. I took Divvy today. I parked my bike @Wrigley Field and it was a challenge to do so. The station had not been dug out and it took me attempts in 3 docks before it accepted my bike.
