The Chainlink

Hey everybody,

My name's Michael Snydel and I'm a Journalism Graduate Student at Columbia Chicago. For Chicago Talks, I'm writing a story about the Divvy bike-sharing program and how veteran bikers react to it? What i'm asking is how has everybody's experiences on this community been with the Divvy program and especially its riders? Do Divvy riders follow the laws or have they been difficult? I would love some reactions. How do you all as a community view the Divvy program? Because this is an news article, I do need names though so if you're interested in speaking with me, I would like to use your name for the story. If you'd like to contact me, my phone number is 630-201-4923 and my email is michael.snydel@loop.colum.edu. Thanks everybody.

There's a few threads with reactions already on this forum. I would suggest you read through them first, and maybe personally solicit those who present an opinion you would like to expand upon.

I'm doing that as well. Thanks for the advice, i've found a few already. I just wanted to put out my own post as well.

Hi, I've a quick question. Tomorrow morning I'll be helping a senior citizen friend of mine on her first Divvy ride. Does anyone know how much the bikes weigh?

Thanks. (Sorry to interrupt the thread)

30 pounds, as a wild guess.  I've unloaded hundreds of them off a flatbed truck, they're not too difficult to lift waist-high--and I'm a few months shy of 60, so I'm edging near the outskirts of Geezerville myself.  But few people have the need to bench press Divvy bikes--the wheels usually stay on the ground, with any luck at all.

The Divvy program enhances the already forming bicycle culture that this city needs so badly if it is ever to become a great cycling city to rival that of Amsterdam.

It will help to mitigate this kind of disorder of abandoned bikes mixed with bikes owned as spares by one owner even.
